What It Means to Believe in Jesus

The Bible teaches that every person is created by God and loved deeply by Him. Yet because of sin, we are separated from God and unable to save ourselves (Romans 3:23; 6:23). The good news—the gospel—is that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us. Through His perfect life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection, Jesus offers forgiveness, salvation, and a restored relationship with God.

Salvation is not achieved by our effort. It is received by faith—placing our trust in Jesus and His finished work on the cross (Ephesians 2:8–9). The question Jesus asked in John 11:26 is still the most important question today: “Do you believe this?”

If you’re ready to take your first step of faith and surrender your life to Jesus as Lord and Savior, here’s a simple way to understand what it means to respond to Jesus:

Spiritual C.P.R. — A Simple Guide to Salvation

Just as CPR is used to bring physical life, spiritual CPR describes the steps of receiving new life in Christ.

C – Confess

Confess your sin and your need for a Savior.
The Bible says we all fall short of God’s standard, and we must come to Him honestly about our sin.
1 John 1:9 (ESV)“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Confession is acknowledging the truth: I cannot save myself. I need Jesus.

P – Profess

Profess your faith in Jesus as Lord and believe in His resurrection.
Salvation comes through trusting that Jesus is who He says He is and surrendering your life to Him.
Romans 10:9 (ESV)“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

This is more than words—it’s placing your full confidence in Jesus to save you eternally.

R – Receive

Receive God’s grace, forgiveness, and new life.
Salvation is a gift. When you receive Jesus, you become part of God’s family.
John 1:12 (ESV)“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

Receiving means opening your heart to the life Jesus freely gives—grace, forgiveness, purpose, and eternal life.
