#HopeIsHome - Service Reopening Plan

Our greatest concern has been, and continues to be, the safety and well-being of our Church and our community. Our desire is to honor and respect our governmental authorities and the advice of noted medical experts as to when it is safe to return to corporate worship. We also want to be cautious as to when and how we begin meeting in person, so we can avoid any setbacks. While there continue to be challenges related to this global pandemic, we are encouraged by the many positive steps our local and state leaders have taken to reopen our communities.

In light of the Governor’s recent decisions, and after much prayer and discussion, the leadership team at Hope Community Church feels it is time to begin responsibly and gradually reopening for in-person services beginning Sunday, May 31st.  We will be reopening in phases, and we’ve listed the details of Phase 1 below. Please read through the entire plan and be prepared to do your part to ensure we have a safe and successful reopening.

Phase 1—Create “Touchless” Services with Social Distancing Protocols in Place
May 31 - June 14

General Detail

  • In-person services will begin Sunday, May 31st

  • Service times will be at NEW service times: 9:00am and 11:00am

  • Service length will be slightly shortened

  • Online services will continue at these new times as well

  • There will be no Children’s Ministry at any service

  • These services will take place at our Shelby Campus ONLY as we are currently unable to use Burns Middle School for our UC Campus due to school closures.

  • The facility has been professionally cleaned and disinfected

Capacity and Seating

  • The auditorium seating has been positioned so that all seating areas are socially distanced.

  • Seating will be limited because of social distancing. In order to try to not have to turn people away at the door on Sundays, all seats will need to be reserved through our online reservations system on a first come, first served basis. RSVPs will open on Tuesdays at 6pm and close on Fridays at 6pm. You can sign-up here.

  • Staff and Ushers will be seating all attendees at their reserved seats.

Additional Seating

  • Additional seating may be added for overflow seating areas in the coming weeks. We will not be able to open these sections until June 5th at the earliest

  • Social distancing standards will be followed in these areas as well.

  • Services will be streamed live on the AVL system in these areas

Additional Safety Measures

  • Hugs, high fives, and handshakes are to be avoided

  • There will be no consumables of any sort (bulletins, pens, mints, coffee, food, etc.).

  • Our staff will be wearing masks when not on stage.

  • We will not pass offering buckets. Online giving options will still be recommended, but there will be stations near the exits with buckets for those who wish to give through cash or check in person.

  • Directional arrows will be in place to show the flow of traffic in the facility.

  • Doors will be propped open and “Worship Leaders” will stand at least 6’ away

  • All contact areas will be cleaned between services

Our main goal in Phase 1 is to create the safest environment we can for those who are ready to begin worshipping in person again. We realize not everyone will be comfortable returning just yet, and that is ok. We encourage those who are not ready to participate in corporate worship yet to stay home and continue worshiping with us online through #HopeAtHome

We also know some people may prefer to wear a mask, and that is ok too. Those choosing to do so will need to bring their own mask with them. In addition, we ask anyone who has had a fever within 24 hours, has a persistent cough, has shortness of breath, or feels sick in any way to please stay home.

We will send out an update in the coming weeks, as the situation evolves and regulations change, as to when we will move into Phase 2. We pray God continues to give you a spirit of peace, increase your faith, and provide for your every need.

We look forward to seeing you “in person” soon!
